Buffs
Buffs turn logged choices into visible momentum — every rule tied to published research you can inspect.
In role-playing games, a buff is a status effect that raises a character’s stats — stronger, faster, more resilient. Manasource applies the idea to real life: Buffs are persistent, evolving entities that track your standing across domains of physical and mental wellbeing.
No points, no generic streaks. Every habit kept, meal eaten, and workout finished nudges the relevant Buff upward — your real choices power up your character.
Your Buff standing is never a stored number quietly edited behind the scenes. The app keeps a permanent record of every action you log and rebuilds your standing from that history each time your profile loads.
Two things follow:
Buffs also decay. Like fitness or focus, a neglected domain drifts downward — and lights back up when you return.
Every Buff carries a rank track. As sustained practice pushes its health past milestones, its rarity rises:
Total Buff health across every domain sets your Ascension Level: 50 levels on an exponential curve, each demanding more than the last. (Your profile “Level” is separate — simply the days since your birth date.)
A Buff does not rise because you tapped a button. It rises because the evidence says it should.
Every item in the Library carries a defined set of effects. Log the resource — a handful of blueberries, a zone 2 session, a cup of green tea — and those effects feed your Buffs. Each effect is anchored to published research: blueberries influence Cognitive Clarity at the anthocyanin dose studied for cerebral blood flow and memory in human trials. Every rule is public, inspectable, and revised as the research evolves.
Buffs are not science. The data they are derived from is. Research isolates variables; daily life does not. Buffs are the deliberately simplified layer in between — and keeping that boundary explicit is what makes them usable.
